Hey,
I hope everyone is doing fine and are safe inside their homes.
So, this blog is about my visit to Madhya Pradesh in February – 2021, we went to attend a family function and visited Pachmarhi, several temples around Ujjain as well. Well, it did not begin as we planned, we were almost 7-8 hours behind our schedule and there was heavy unseasonal rain when we had to leave for Pachmarhi, yes, rain! mid-February, that too heavy rain with thunderstorms, and our trip was full of ups and downs and filled with adventure.
So let us dive into the blog…
Day – 1
We visited Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga and Kalbhairav temple. Clicking pictures is not allowed inside the temples so couldn’t click more pictures but, I am sharing all the pictures I have. As we were already behind the planned schedule and couldn’t reach on time for other temples and had to take a halt near Ujjain at night.
Day – 2
We visited Shri Mamleshwar, and Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga on this day early morning. It is widely believed that a pilgrimage to the Omkareshwar is not complete without visiting Mamleshwar temple as it is believed to house half of the 4th Jyotirlinga, the other half is in Omkareshwar Temple. And left for Khandwa to attend a family function. After attending the function we left for Panchmarhi late at night after the rain stopped.
Day – 3,4
We reached Pachmarhi in the morning, checked into the hotel, and got freshen up. With this, the most awaited part of this trip began.
Pachmarhi is a hill station in Hoshangabad, Madhya Pradesh which is also called as “Queen of Satpura”. The best medium for local sightseeing is gypsy, Pachmarhi has narrow and hilly roads, one should totally avoid private vehicles and/or self-driving here. Forest department provides gypsy rides on sharing bases which charge 1500 rs. per day which excludes forest visit charges which are totally affordable and worth the experience.
- Pandava caves – It is said that these caves were shelter of pandavas during their exile time and for some buddhist monks.
2. Bee falls – Among many waterfalls in Pachmarhi Bee falls is the most popular and it provides drinking water to the entire city. One can reach the falls after a short trek and enjoy the view. no one is allowed to bathe under the fall as it is drinking water for the entire city.
3. Jata Shankar caves – It is believed that Lord Shiva hide from the wrath of Bhasmasur. The caves boast of a natural Shivalingam under the shadow of a massive rock and the stone formation in the cave closely resembles the Sheshnag. The rock formation in the caves resembles Lord Shiva’s hair.
4. Mahadev hills – Mahadev hills have 2 cave temples of lord shiva. one is Gupta Mahadev or Chhota Mahadev and the main Mahadev is Bada Mahadev cave. It is very peaceful and green
5. Reechgarh – Reechgarh is a huge cave hidden within the folds of the hill of Pachmarhi, which gets its name from a local legend. It is said that once a giant bear Reech in Hindi used to live in this cave. The cave is covered with lush greenery. Also, it is the shooting point of the Ashoka movie.
6. Dhoopgarh – Dhoopgarh is the highest point – 4430 ft. of the Satpura range. After a little trekking one can reach the point. Being at the highest point sunrise and sun set both can be seen from the same mountain which is very rare. However, the sunrise point here is forbidden due to Tigers visiting this point in the early morning. This place has a small eatery that sells tea, soft drinks, etc. One can enjoy beverages and watch the mesmerizing panoramic views of the sunset.
We missed Chauragarh as we did not have much time and had to get back home. But you can add one more day to your visit and visit this place as well.
Winters is the best time to visit. Must visit.
Stay happy and healthy,
Mohini.
